Red belly scales

Hello everybody

I have an adult pair of phelsuma grandis, and I recently discovered that the ventral scales of the female have developed a brown red-ish colour. No change in behaviour, although they bred 16 days ago and the female today refused bugs or super worms.
For the husbandry, the hotspot is at 35 celsius, 95 fahrenheit and the coolest temp area is at 26 celsius, 78-79 fahrenheit. Humidity in the morning around 8 is between 40-50% and I try to keep it around 70% throughout the day. I feed usually every day or every other day, with 2 feedings a week dusted with d3 and the rest with normal calcium...crickets, blatta, fresh shed superworms.

If I forgot any details regarding husbandry please ask.
Thank you

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited!

Is your calcium with D3 a multivitamin too? Which brands of calcium with D3 and plain calcium do you use?

I don't know about those reddish brown ventral scales.

Have you seen this Phelsuma grandis care sheet?

Hello Elizabeth, thank you for the greeting and the reply,

The calcium with d3 brand is Repti Calcium by Zoomed, the plain calcium is JBL microcalcium and as for the vitamin intake i offer pangea watermelon once a week. In the future i would like to try a mix of mashed fruits with all the required vitamins that reptiles need but I haven't done the research yet.

I dont know what can cause the scale coloration, the male is doing fine, no discoloration eating like a champ and active. I checked if the top mesh gets hot from the heat bulb but I placed my hand for several minutes and it stays cool. Maybe its a rash, the start of some fungal/bacteria, or metabolic, I have no idea. Maybe somebody have seen or delt with the situation before.

You're welcome.

I use Zoo Med's Repti Calcium with D3, Zoo Med's Repti Calcium without D3, and Zoo Med's Reptivite multivitamins without D3 for some of my geckos. Some of my geckos may react negatively to Zoo Med's Reptivite??? Perhaps the vitamins they get from the crickets are enough?

I use Pangea's powdered diets too especially for my Correlophus ciliaris. Since ~2013 I've been feeding all crickets and Blaptica dubia roaches ground up Zoo Med's Natural ADULT Bearded Dragon Food. That's a good mix of ingredients.

I'm not sure whether Jon Klarsfeld, DVM, is answering emails these days. He's the vet who has a Phelsuma grandis breeding facility in Florida. I'll send you a Private Message.
