Possible Pink Eye In 3 1/2 Year Old LG

I have a LG that I believe has pink eye. It started with his right eye after a shed. There was what looked like pink irritation and possibly a retained shed. We gave him some TLC that we give to retained eye sheds. It didn’t help. The eye is now cloudy and tinted with pink. It’s now manifesting in his left eye. Both pupils still respond to light. I’ve been using anti microbial eye drops from Vetericyn and it doesn’t seem to be helping either. I’m now waiting on the Flukers Repti-Rinse to arrive. I DO NOT have a reptile vet anywhere near me (nearest one is over 200+ miles) so unfortunately that is not an option. I’ve been trying to search the internet for options for over the counter medicines, home remedies, literally anything but there’s no information besides “take them to the vet” which isn’t an option for me. He’s on paper towels and we’ve since completely sterilized his tank, hides, decorations, and dishes. Is there ANYTHING else I can get for him to help cure this? I could possibly reach out to my cats vet for medication but she’s not an exotic vet so she can’t really do a physical on him. I don’t currently have any pictures of his eyes. I’ve tried getting several but he keeps his eyes closed a lot now, especially if it’s bright.

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited!

How long has your leo's possible pink-eye been going on? How would your cat's vet treat feline pink-eye?

Perhaps your cat's vet could teleconference with the reptile vet you've found?

Without treatment your leo may lose his vision.

It’s closing on about a week since I first started noticing symptoms. A brief talk with my vet tells me she’d treat feline pink eye with Terramycin, which is an antibiotic eye ointment from what I was told. I’ve read a couple threads where bearded dragon owners have used it for eye infections. I can get Terramycin online without a prescription in my state. If the Repti-Rinse doesn’t show improvement between 24-48 hours after treatment has started, I’m going to have my vet provide me with a tube of Terramycin. I’m keeping in touch with my cats vet with the situation and working on getting in contact with the reptile vet.

Do you know the active ingredients in Flukers Repti-Rinse?

I recommend picking up the Terramycin right away and beginning treatment with that.

The ingredients in the Repti-Rinse are:
Distilled Water, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Benzalkonium Chloride, Sodium Chloride

I went and picked up the Terramycin last night and started treatment. I gave him one treatment last night (since I get off so late from work I only had time to give one) and another this morning. I’ll be doing another treatment right when I get home and try and squeeze in another before bed. It recommends using 2-4 times a day. This morning his eyes are less pink and more cloudy, pupils still respond to light changes. He was more willing this morning to open up his eyes than he was yesterday morning so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.

Today will be the full second day of treatment. This morning when I went in to treat him and switch his daytime light on, I noticed both eyes were open when I pulled him out of his hide. I was able to get the medicine in his eyes much easier. They are still cloudy but he’s keeping them open.

12/16- First Full day of treatments
Today, 12/20 4 days after first treatment, his eyes are clearing up. His right eye (his bad eye) was the first to show symptoms of pink eye/ some kind of eye infection which spread to his left eye (his good eye). I started easing off doing 3-4 treatments a day on day 3, opting for 2 treatments a day. Tonight, I pulled him out and noticed his left eye (good eye) was clearing up amazingly. His right eye (his bad eye) which we couldn’t see the pupil clearly two days ago now is clear enough to where we can see his pupil again. Both eyes are showing improvement. He’s still on the road to recovery but he’s showing clear signs of improvement. Eyes still react to light, eating and drinking fine. I will continue to update until he’s 100% clear. I really hope my situation helps many other gecko owners in the future.

That Terramycin antibiotic eye ointment seems to be a godsend! You seem to have a natural knack for treating him!

Which multivitamins/supplements do you use on your leo's prey? What do you feed his prey? Does it contain Vitamin A retinol?
