Wellness Checkup

So, I got Donovan about 2.5 weeks ago. He's eating like a trooper, but we are still working on getting to know one another (in other words, he's not afraid of my hand, sniffs and licks it when I put it in his enclosure, and has crawled over it, but isn't quite ready for me to hold him yet). He's already had one fully successful shed. Overall, he seems healthy and normal (although, either he's younger than I was told or he's on the thin side, but with the way he's eating, that shouldn't be an issue for long).

I have surgery coming up in a bit over 2 weeks and I won't be able to drive for several weeks.

How long after you get your Leopard Geckos do you take them in for a wellness check with a vet?

I would prefer to give him more time to get accustomed to me before I pop him in a travel carrier and take him to a vet.

I never took mine to get a wellness checkup. I will only take them to a vet if I fear there's something wrong with them, and that's not very likely.

I try to get new pets to a vet for a wellness check up because it makes things easier down the road. The wellness check establishes them as a patient. So it's easier to get an appointment with the vet when there's a reason for concern.

It's highly recommended to keep leopard geckos in a simple setup (paper towels & such) for 3 months prior to having their wellness check.

Donnie has a fairly basic set up so at least in that regard I'm doing good.

I'm actually very lucky vet-wise, because there is an exotic pet vet around 20 minutes away.

So, 3 months prior to wellness check? That actually works out pretty good. I should be able to drive again by then.
