Hi everyone, it’s madison ozzys mom again, my little baby still hasn’t eaten with me. I’ve had him for almost 2 weeks at this point and still nothing I’m absolutely terrified. I won’t really be if he was an adult but he’s a little baby and I’m so scared I’m going to lose him on the bright side though he’s pretty active and exploring his new home he just is not interested in bugs and I’m so scared I’m scared he’ll die of malnutrition or from MBD. Please please please help thank you.

Please share a current image of your leopard gecko Ozzy.

Have you tried spoon-feeding him Repashy's Grub Pie or dabbing a bit of Grub Pie on Ozzy's nose?

Judging by this photo Ozzy does have some "meat" on his bones. Have you some idea how old Ozzy is?

Bug burger is for feeder insects did you mean the grub pie for insectivores?

Oops, sorry. Repashy's Grub Pie is definitely what I meant! Please get some ASAP.

PS:
  1. Please share an image of Ozzy's 10 gallon setup.
  2. Did you decide to go with a heat mat + a thermostat?
  3. What are the ground temps underneath Ozzy's warm DRY hide?
  4. Does Ozzy have a water dish?
  5. Something else you can do to help Ozzy feel more secure is cover both sides & the back with brown paper from large shopping bags.

I’m out of the house as soon as I’m home I’ll send pictures. I assume he’s only a month due to the fact he’s only 3 grams

Something very important

This gecko is quite small, I would avoid handling until they are at least 10 + grams / 3 months old just to make sure they are eating. Also to make sure they are not getting stressed out.

I need to handle him to hand feed him though would that be ok?

Ok perfect thank you! I have a calcium dish for hi
It had D3 in it is that ok too I’ve heard mixed opinions on that. I also have a CHE should I switch to the mat?

What brand of D3 calcium have you been using?

What is the ground temp underneath Ozzy's warm DRY hide?

All these details ARE important. For instance IF you're not meeting Ozzy's temperature requirements that could be the reason Ozzy is not eating.

What small bugs or worms have you offered him?

Zoo Med's Repti Calcium with D3?

Is your digital thermometer's probe sitting on top of the large warm dry hide? Instead Ozzy needs 88-92*F on the ground underneath this hide. That's where many leos hang out to digest their prey. Instead of such a big hide with an even bigger entry hole for a small leo I recommend a different hide with a small opening like this hide OR a small black plastic hide.

It may help to place recently fed mealworms in a sturdy tealight holder like this. Sometimes Walmart carries these. If he can't reach the worms, a small rock stepping stone will help.

Can you get brown paper bags from a grocery store? Then cut them to size to cover both sides (unless up against a wall) and the back with this brown paper. That will help Ozzy feel more secure.

Yes the zoo med with D3 is that ok? I have a black small hide on the cool side I can switch those around. He has mealworm in his little dish that he can reach. I’ll definitely do the bags on the side of the tank. I promise I’m a good reptile owner haha I’ve just never had a Leo and there is so much conflicting information

No worries, Maddy. I know how much conflicting info is OUT THERE!

Once Ozzy begins to eat, we can sort out how to manage supplements (Schedule 124). I much prefer light supplement dusting instead of leaving plain (no D3) inside the enclosure.

At that point Ozzy needs 3 separate supplements as mentioned in Link 81.

  1. Let's switch the small black hide with the very large hide.
  2. Place the digital thermometer's probe underneath that black hide on top of the ground/floor.
  3. After several hours, what does that thermometer read? You're looking for 88-92*F ground/floor temperature.

I switched the hide, under his black hide it’s about 90. What are the 3 supplements?

Please keep the probe underneath the smaller black plastic hide.

Be sure to check the expiration dates. Plain (no D3) calcium NEVER expires. The 3 supplements are:
  1. Zoo Med's Repti Calcium with D3
  2. Zoo Med's Repti Calcium withOUT D3 (plain)
  3. Zoo Med's Reptivite multivitamins withOUT D3

Weekly Schedule 124 for Leopard Geckos 0-12 months old
(withOUT UVB)
Metabolic bone disease (MBD) symptoms include leaning to one side when walking, walking on one or both "elbows", bowed limbs, belly dragging, and an underbite. Difficulty chewing should be closely monitored.
The Reptile Supply Company (916-226-4089) based in Lodi, California stocks Zoo Med's ReptiVite multivitamins withOUT D3.

Lightly dust the prey 3x per week even when your leopard gecko eats daily. When your leo graduates to eating ~3x per week, still lightly dust the prey ONLY 3x per week.

During this time (0-12 months old) your leopard gecko will be transitioning from daily feeding to feeding ~3x per week. This all depends upon how fast your leo grows!

  • Monday > > crickets or dubia lightly dusted with Zoo Med's Repti Calcium with D3
  • Tuesday > > mealworms, superworms, or black soldier fly larvae (Phoenix worms) > > no dusting
  • Wednesday > > crickets or dubia lightly dusted with pure precipitated calcium carbonate withOUT D3 (Zoo Med's Repti Calcium or NOW's human-grade pure calcium carbonate)
  • Thursday > > mealworms, superworms, or black soldier fly larvae (Phoenix worms) > > no dusting
  • Friday > > crickets or dubia lightly dusted with Zoo Med's ReptiVite multivitamins withOUT D3
  • Saturday > > mealworms, superworms, or black soldier fly larvae (Phoenix worms) > > no dusting
  • Sunday > > no food or free choice > > no dusting

Here's a healthy dry diet/bedding for mealworms/superworms and for bugs too! After you get mealworms or superworms, replace the bedding they come in with already ground Professional Reptiles' Pro Gutload dry insect & worm diet (1-775-359-1085). Let's keep those worms in 6 quart plastic Sterilite tubs with bedding & ventilation at room temperature, NOT in the refrigerator.

Unrelated, but does that smell?

I found myself allergic to whatever the meal worms bedding is from PetCo and PetSmart

Also....

Is it good for Dubias ?
