The male Gecko threw up 11 days ago, he also pooped on that day. The vomit had 3 undigested butter worms and some black mush that looked like possibly undigested cricket exoskeleton, or superworm(although he has only eaten one in the 30 days i have had him).

I came on here and asked for advice and was told butterworms are like junk food and to let him have a few days tummy rest and go back to crickets. If he did not throw up the cricket all should be ok.

I opted to not feed him for 2 days and then he ate 5 crickets, no vomit. I thought great.

Since then he has refused the next 2 days, then eaten 5, refused the next 2 days, then ate 2, then ate 3, then ate 2 and 1 butterworm.

Now I feel like a heel for not noticing that it had been this many days BUT it has been 12 DAYS SINCE HE HAS POOPED! I really am not sure how it did not dawn on me. I keep a daily log on each reptile in the house, but I have been really sick and have just been jotting down on a sheet 0-p for no poo and #-c for number of crickets in a column. Today I went to enter it into my log on the computer and that is when I discovered the glaring poo problem.

I should also add 7 days ago he shed perfectly.

As I mentioned I have only had him for 30 days, this can not be ok, can it? What can I do, is there anything I can do before having to go to the reptile vet, as I took them on as a favor to a friend of my son's originally believing they were healthy and currently my husband has been laid off since May. I am the only one earning money. So if there is something I can do before having to shut down my home daycare for a day to drive 3 hours away and pay a minimum of $80.00 just for the visit that would be great. If not then i will have to make arrangements for a vet visit. Any ideas to help out here at home would be great, esp. if I am worrying for nothing.

All I could think of is to soak him in some warm water. Check his tummy too. If he's got a really dark spot on his stomach then you should be worried. I would take him to the vet, personally. He doesn't seem bloated at all? Pictures of the top view, and a bottom view would help greatly.

The last pick better shows the color differences if you tilt your computer screen away from you...at least that is what I found. P.S. any idea as to his morph, he has purple feet and purple bands on his tail and back.

He looks completely fine to me. I don't know why he wouldn't poop. One of mine went nearly 8 days before, then left me a HUGE poo.

All I can say is don't feed him until you see a movement. If he's impacted (from not digesting cricket well enough, happened once with me.) feeding him would only make it worse.

What's his temp? Increasing his temp will help him digest his food, to make a quicker movement. I keep all my leos on 97F. Right now, all of my leos poo in the same hour of each other. I feed my juvies/hatchlings every day, and my adults every other day, but they all poop together at the same time.

His heat is at 94-95 but i think the dimmer will move up a little more yet...as well do you think it could be due to him hanging out in his moist hide since before his shed 7 days ago and since then as well...it is only 77 degrees.

I took it away from him tonight just in case he was spending to much time in there and not digesting enough. As well i was feeding every day...thinking they needed to be feed everyday so I will cut the two of them back to every 2 days.

Thank you for all of you help...I will try to increase to 97...and I will not feed any more until he poos... no clue on the morph eh?

Morph, a gorgeous normal.

Take away the humid hide, at least until he poos. If it stays that cold in there constantly then he's probably not regulating himself. I put the humid hide in when I see them dull up, and leave it until they're done shedding. Though, most people leave it in 24/7. I see no harm in removing it since they don't need it until they shed.

One other thing you might want to try is using a little plain mineral oil. I just dip my finger in it, and let them lick it off. Just make sure it is the food grade stuff. You should be able to find it in the health section of your local stores by the other digestion aids. Just a couple drops should be ok. We have a boy who is being stubborn as well. I wish you good luck.

Success!!

Obviously the little stinker took to much of a liking to his moist hide and was unable to thermo-regulate properly because of it. The 15 min bath in 94 degree water coupled with taking away the moist hide so that he had no choice but to use his warm hide, resulted in a gargantuan poo this morning!!:yahoo:

In fact I re-weighed him to see just how much he had gained in retained poo. The last weight I took was 4 days ago and it was 79 gms and today after the poo he was 73 gms ...wow a 6 gm poo!!:yikes: I bet he feels better!

Thanks for all the help Allee and the suggestion Angelicka

I am really happy to hear your gecko is doing fine ! Is a gecko not thermo regulating a common problem ? Im glad that my geck opoops every day , If he skip a day or two i would be so much worried. Haha. It will probably happen one day.

Offshore...I am not sure if Geckos not thermoregulating is a common problem...but now I have seen it first hand... and I am so glad he is ok!! I was so worried once I realized it had been so long since he had pooped...and I felt like such a terrible mom for not keeping my records by date on the computer like usual and slacking and only noting them on an undated column on a piece of paper!:blushing:
