Leo lighting?

I have had my leo's for at least four years now and I've always used an undertank heater and a plain light bulb to stimulate daytime and nighttime. Well, since I put tile in my tanks the undertank heather doesn't do anything so I use the normal house light for heating/light which works well, but I think the bright light hurts their eyes. given, they usually are asleep during the day so its not usually an issue, but when they do wake up and come out they squint, but stop as soon as I turn the bright light off. I have a red infrared heat lamp that I hate started using for nighttime use, but should i use this all the time? if i do, wouldn't they get confused if they had no changes in lighting? I'm thinking about keeping my routine the same and just investing in a timer to make sure the bright light isn't on too much? opinions please

Just invest in some paper towel or sand or something. You seem to be going through a fit to work towards tile :p Paper towel and sand rule all. Lock them in your bathroom if they feel comfortable on tile. ;-)

Good luck to you and your leo! =D

no sand

I would realy not use sand you run too high a risk for compaction. leos ingest or lick there substrait and some sands cant be digested by the geockos. and unless you witch one they can and cant digest i would use paper towels or old news paper or even brown painters paper.

What type of tile are you using? I use the vinyl tile and it conducts the heat quite well. You may need to up the temp of the UTH instead of switching from the tile. Paper Towels are probably your best bet unless you want to spend the money on reptile carpet.

Instead of paper towels, have you thought of the shelf lining that sticks to the bottom of the tank? I use it, and it's great. It's simple and easy to wipe clean.

Substrate is an on going debate. It's really based on what is best for you, and what's easiest for you. Though it's pretty agreed upon that sand is a no go. =]
