Hiya. I was simply wondering, what small species that people are keeping do they find bold, and do not leg it as soon as they see you? I am going to hopefully get some more phelsuma but my ornata darts away if i poke my head around the door lol. Thanks,

Ed ;-)

P. klemmeri for sure! P. Laticauda is also another choice.

Not Phelsuma, but if you want some really small geckos which are bold, look at Lygodactylus kimhowelli and williamsi. They can be kept pretty similar to Phelsuma.

Ok thanks. I'm really liking the look of klemmeri, but also yesterday i saw some L williamsi and L Kimhowelli and they were awesome little characters! Also, I was wonedring what P borbonica, P guttata and P asriata are are like in terms of boldness from peoples personal experience? Cheers,

Ed :D

From what my breeder told me and my own experience with them Pea****s (P. quadriocellata) tend to be pretty bold and inquisitive. I have seen them in displays and they don't seem to hide all that much. You might want to look into them too even though they are kind of a medium sized day gecko.

If you're looking to spend a little more than klemmeri, and search a little harder for a male, you may look into P. guimbeaui - I know they're one of your favorite species! - my males are VERY bold and with the females it is a hit-and-miss. I have one very shy female, yet the other two are very bold. The guimbeaui aren't too hard to care for (especially since you have experience with ornata), they just need the correct temperature in order to thrive. I was honestly blown away by the guimbeaui!

Good luck

Aweosme. Do you know what Q. Parva are like in terms of boldness rather than Q. quads?

Yeh i LOVE guimbeaui! Well remembered lol. I've been looking at classifieds but there are none i can see that will be at the september hamm sadly. It seems there are very few around for sale in europe at the moment. Even if i can find a single female i'll probably buy it, but there seems to be a significant lack :(

Cheers guys :D

Breviceps hands down for me above all others they really seem to actually want you to piss them off.Little bulldogs and very aggressive breeders much more than serraticauda.
Most phelsuma are a little curious once they get used to you feeding them etc but nothing like the brevi's mine will stare you down.

Honestly, I feel that it comes down to the individual animal. I have had CB golddusts that I have raised myself which started out real tame...I used to handle them a lot, which made them very calm. One female that used to be tame became really skiddish when introduced with the male.

They change depending on how much you work with them...

I agree with this. I have a giant day and he was pretty bold to start out with but then would start hiding when i came near the enclosure. So i started feeding him fruit mash off my finger. That seemed to calm him down. I am going to see if I keep doing it if he will actually come to me when i come to the enclosure.

I know that P. Klemmeri has been mentioned but i saw some when I was picking up my pea****. They are pretty clam and inquisitive. I was really surprised for such a small gecko.

Ok thanks everyone for their input. As others have said, i think a lot of it comes down to the individual geckos. I got a new pair of ornata recently (i'll have to post up some pics :)) and the female is very bold and will take baby food from the finger and will come to you wheras my male ornata i have been keeping for a while will run away as soon as he senses you lol.
