I would very interested in knowing if anyone has experience mating and breeding different sized leopard geckos.... If the male is smaller I would guess there is no problem, but what about when the male is bigger than the female, has anyone done that??

I stoped breeding a couple of years ago because of all the neglected leos I was getting (I started some sort of animal rescue organization), and because I have a really hard time selling/giving away geckos (I do not like it because I do not trust most people enough to give them such delicate animals) and I end up keeping most of my hatchlings... anyways, this year I met someone who is a very responsible and massive insect breeder (breeds a vast variety of roaches, a variety of cricets, grasshoppers, mealworms, superworms, waxworms, fruitflies and so on....) and is new to keeping leos and he has one male that would make stuning babies with one of my females, and we were talking about breeding them together, I receintly started to breed 2 different types of roaches and gave a boost to my mealworm colony, so, I am hoping I´ll be good enough feeder-wise in a couple of months (I am planning on keeping all the babies, except for one that I would give to him), but I have one doubt, since his male is bigger than my female, and I am afraid of aggresive mating behaviour from such a large male, has anyone done this?? I have read that there is no problem, but I want to read it from "real" people with real experiences, my female is a cute 50 grames Tremper albino, and the male is a nice 74 grames Sunglow , I will take a picture of both next to each other so you can compare, another concern of mine is if this could cause her to get eggbound with eggs that are too big for her to lay, I do want theese babies but never on the expense of her getting hurt or dead, would love to read some experiences!!

I have had no problem doing this. I have a 9 year old male Tremper albino who is on either side of 100 grams depending on the time of the year. He has mated successfully with 50-60 gram females year after year. I don't think the issue is size as much as level of aggression. This guy is really good about backing off if the female isn't receptive. He, like all my breeders, lives with 1-2 females from about Jan-Oct and I rarely have a problem.

Yes I did with one gecko and unfortunately it took me too long to figure out what was happening and I lost her. She just got more and more lethargic and at one point (and this is when I figured it out) she laid a partial, broken egg in the poop corner. I know egg binding does happen but I think it's a lot less common than one would think.

I have been doing a lot of thinking, on one hand I really want to see what theese babies will be like, but, on the other hand, just yesterday I got another unwanted leo :( I hadn´t got any in a while now, but now I have another rescue, another animal to put back to health and good condition, lucky me she is not sick, just underweight and with some stuck shed, her skin looks a bit pale, but I believe with propper husbandry, good food, heat and vitamins she can be stunning in a few months, so, now I am back to myself, thinking that if I end up keeping new babies I will have less resources to help any new animal when another one crosses my way, I do not make such a big deal out of looks anyways, so I am leaning more and more towards not breeding them, and just keeping my collection as it is, and caring now for this new addition, I am not a comercial breeder and have no economic interest in babies, so, I am thinking I´ll just leave the world as is.
