I will be going to the US soon and I am already planning my gecko shopping of things I do not find in my country, in my list I already have:

  • Thermostats for all my UTHs
  • Under Tank heaters (I will be getting 2 more geckos soon and rigt now I do not have more UTHs for them)
  • Crested Gecko Diet (for my phelsumas, I have been adviced that this is more complete than natural fruit)
  • Water crystals for my dubia colony

And sooner or later I know I will get some sort of neglected, malnourished or ill gecko, so, I want to have a few basics for them, and I was looking at theese products:

Fluker's Repta+Boost Insectavore & Carnivore High Amp Boost at PETCO

Oxbow Animal Health | Carnivore Care?

Amazon.com: Zilla 11864 Jump-Start Caloric Supplement and Appetite Stimulant, 4-1/4-Ounce Bottle: Pet Supplies

Or something similar, I currently have a couple of cans of Hills A/D food, has anyone used theese before? In what type of situation? Has it worked?

Are there any other products anyone can recommend in order to be prepared for the most common gecko illnesses which get to me every now and then?? In my country I can't find any reptile products so, I buy them whenever I travel to the US!

thanks

I can't comment on the stuff for sick geckos, but here's my opinion on the other stuff:
Thermostats: I really like the ESU (or Alife or Zilla -- I've seen the same thermostat marketed under all 3 names). I find they work well for the price

UTH: I like the Zoo-med because it seems to be coated as opposed to being a "naked" piece of flexwatt. You may also want to consider Zoo-med heat cable since you can configure it any way you like as opposed to the heat mats.

Consider getting "Day Gecko Diet" for your Phelsuma. This is also made by Repashy and is supposed to be sweeter than the CGD. I use it for my Phelsuma and my Lagodactylus.

Saskia ~

I have some Zilla's Jump-Start Caloric Supplement and Appetite Stimulant. Never used it. Expires Nov 2013. (I could send it your way???)

Protein: 0.68%
Fat: 34.5 %

+ other ingredients. Corn syrup, then soybean oil, then malt syrup + top the ingredient listing. Can you find an ingredient listing online?

Thumbs down for Jumpstart, I think.

Oxbow's Carnivore Care is a much superior product. Fluker's Repta+Boost is not as good as Carnivore Care.

Thanks so much Elizabeth!! If you could send that it would be awesome, I could pay for the shipping!! I´d be staying at my sister´s house in Miami, FL, I´ll arrive on June 23th, if you could send it there it would be fantastic!

So, Flukers reptaboost is out of the question then!! Will order some Carnivore Care!! This year due to my (human) baby I will only be traveling to the US this one time, so I need to buy everything I might need!

Any advice on other products I could buy?? I´d like to have like a first aid kit for geckos, with the things neglected geckos more frequently need, the breeding season is in right now and I am seeing so many unexperienced KIDS breeding leos, I am already being offered a gecko that was born without eyelids (so, it´s blind), and another with a deformed leg.... and it is just starting, I want to be prepared in order to nurse back to health to as many as I can.

Yes, that's the heat cable I mean. Be aware that a 15' cable does not give you 15' of heat. There's about a 6' "cold" part at the plug end. There's a mark on the cable showing you where the heat begins.

Mod Thorrshamri has posted a gecko FA kit. You may wish to check it out: http://www.geckosunlimited.com/community/pests-diseases/66661-geckos-first-aid-kit.html

Post #44 following the Leo Caresheet explains about Flexwatt heat tape.

If you can order the Carnivore Care, why use the Repta+Boost? Same idea. Both are all-in-one powders.

I would be happy to post the Jump-Start to your sister's in Florida. However, have you heard that it is a good product??? With most of the calories from fat, it does not seem very good to me. Much better to use the Carnivore Care. If you really want it, send me the address via my email.

You may wish to add some K-Y Jelly to assist in reinsertion of prolapses. Just got a tube myself. That may even be better than Preparation H.

Can you get Calcium Glubionate in Venezuela, a liquid calcium supplement? Here it is sometimes available at a pharmacy in pints and may have to be ordered.

Well, the KY Jelly is actually widely available in my country!
About the Zilla Jump Start I believe it was Allee Toler who recomended it to me a while back, I trust her knowledge, I am almost sure it was her.
I will check the first aid kit right now!
If you think that all 3 products are pretty much the same concept (reptaboost, jump start and carnivore care) I think I would choose the best one, I believed they served different purposes and I wanted to be stocked up!
I was looking for the calcium glubionate and it is actually not sold here, I will def look for it!! Thanks for the tip

I would rather give them Aunt Jemima pancake syrup (joking) before giving them that junk. Don't waste your money on Jump start. One item that I always recommend to be kept at home unrelated to diet is Quick stop.

Four Paws Quick Blood Stopper Styptic Powder at PETCO

Thanks cricket!!

In that case I´ll get Carnivore care and will dismiss the jump start!!

Regarding the quick stop I will DEFFINITELY be buying a few of them!! not only for my geckos, I run an animal rescue group at home, I am constantly receiving injured dogs and cats, and that would be of much help!

Thanks to all of you for the advice, I will be buying the heat cable, the carnivore care, the quick stop, thermostats!! I already saw videos on how to use the heat cable, and I think that each pack would be enough for about 3 tanks, and plugged into one thermostat will work awesome!! Looking forward to my animal shopping already!!!!
