Responses like this are likely the reason people like that act the way they do. You are enabling their attitude and trying to justify their behavior. You are basically telling others that it is OK to snap out at new members or even older members for the slightest mistake they make. Since when is it OK to crucify others for your own past experiences?
I used to moderate one of the forums over at Fauna. So I fully understand how you can sometimes be bombarded with the same question over and over and over. The issue, though, is that each person should be judged and responded to on a case by case basis. The old adage rings true "If you don't have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all"
Why should these people feel welcome to come back and ask more questions if you're going to crucify them the instant they make one minor mistake? Or maybe crucify is a bit harsh, but it gets to the point.
Did you think about this? Out of all of the gecko or reptile owners in the world, how many do you think actually come online and drop their pride long enough to ask questions? I'd bet less than 50%. So these are the people who care enough about their geckos/herps/reptiles to actually seek out help. They could've just winged it and possibly killed their pets. But no, they care enough to request a helping hand for proper information. Are you really going to justify trying to drive these people away?
See, you answer your own concerns here. It's blatantly obvious that every other care sheet you find will have some form of conflicting information. How is a new keeper to know what information is proper and what is not, without asking questions? How are they to know that what YOU answer with is right, without questioning you?
I understand dealing with know-it-all keepers.. but for instance. My first thread here, was basically taken over by Cricket and another person arguing over the whole Calcium dish subject. I ceased responding because it became an argument back and forth between cricket and another forum member.
I prefer to be friendly, but I find the internet is full of bullies and trolls. Cricket seems to fall into this category and i've only been here a few days.
I'd prefer to quote this
Practice it, and you'll find Karma repays you 10 fold
