Egg Question

My female finally laid her eggs last night but not in the nesting box. I found them this morning in her warm hide. They were a perfect shape and completely white!!

I marked them right away and placed them in a container in hatchrite and into the incubator they went. Between when I found them this morning to now (7 hours later) the tops of the eggs concaved in a bit. Is this normal?? Could it be caused by the eggs sitting in the warm hide and then going to a cooler incubator (78 - 79 degrees)??

Thanks

Good day!

78-79 degrees is too cool, If you want to hatch females (which is what you¨ll hatch with low temps, you might want to go a little higher, to 81 at least....)

The denting usually occurs for 2 main causes: lack of humidity or death of the egg, also, sudden temperature changes are never good for eggs... they can take some temp variation, but never abruptly, right now, all you can do is check if they have enough humidity, increase their temmp a few degrees, and hope they are not dead

eggs.jpgThanks Saskia

I read you needed 78 - 82 fr females so I figured 78 - 79 would be safe. I have upped it to 81 now.

I have attached a pic of the eggs for you to look at. The humidity in the container is at 75% and my other 2 are at 86%. This one is still climbing as I just put the hydrometer in it and it has now leveled out yet. My guess is that it will be about 86% like the other containers in the incubator.

Thanks

That humidity and temps are perfect, the eggs do not look ll that bad, they should plump up soon... keep them steady there

Update 2.............I don't think the eggs are looking to good!! I have attached a pic of them this morning and they are starting to look a little yellowish/green and the egg shell is starting to look transparent.

Are these duds now or should I just keep holding on and seeing what happens???

Not looking good, but hang on awhile till they look really funky just in case. Even my proven breeders frequently don't produce fertile first clutches of a new season.
