Oops - Singing Crickets...

We received our first online order of crickets yesterday afternoon. All arrived safely, and as far as I can tell alive - I dumped the box into a garbage bag and then moved the crickets from there into their temporary home to avoid losing them all over the bathroom.

A few weeks ago, my son moved the crickets from his room to his bathroom because they were too noisy (with the look of disgust that 13 year olds cultivate so well, he marched them first into the living room at 11:00 p.m. because he couldn't sleep).

Well, apparently, the ones we received yesterday 'sing.' And quite impressively at that - I haven't heard the PetSmart crickets singing... And apparently, we missed one last night that the girls did not finish off, as Gus tells me he kept being woken by the cricket overnight.

As it turns out, they can get under the tile in the tank, so I need to put something underneath to raise the tiles to the level of the silicone bead - or find someone to shave 1/8 of an inch off one of the tiles.

Cheers, K

Pretend you're out camping . . .
I live in a 2 family house (we're upstairs, tenant is downstairs). The crickets migrate downstairs and we regularly get called to remove crickets from the bathtub, under the fridge and, believe it or not, the light fixtures!

That's a good way to get to know your neighbors. ;-)

The tough part is when the crickets crawl into the hot air ducts!!

LOL on the camping analogy. Except that his first night at Boy Scout Camp three summers ago, he marched over to my tent to tell me to turn the crickets off because they were keeping him awake. Between the crickets the cicadas and the frogs that summer, we had quite the serenade by our campsite.

Kid can sleep through fireworks, but an insect keeps him up.

Am happy to report that the offenders have now been eaten.

Cheers, K

Ahh the joys of live-feeding! I also do not recommend keeping a roach colony in your living space, though if you use your imagination, their running feet sound like a torrential rainstorm on your windows!
What size cricket did you order? We order medium crickets for our reptiles. Not only are they less developed/less exoskeleton/more digestible, they also aren't developed enough to chirp before we feed them off...usually. We go through 4000 a week and haven't even had our seven (eek!) clutches of Bearded Dragons hatch! Of course, some always escape and grow into chirpers.
