Traveling across the country, debating shipping gecko

Hello!

My name is Rachael and I'm the proud owner of a super cute, 3-year-old female leopard gecko named Luna. She lives in a 10-gallon tank with a reptile carpet, a cool hide and a warm hide, two overhead lights (one night and one day), and an under tank heat pad beneath her warm hide. She's terrible, and I mean terrible, at hunting crickets, so I only feed her mealworms dusted with calcium. She's been happy and healthy for the whole time I've had her.

I'm moving across the country to go to grad school in less than a month. I'm driving with my mom and we're taking a week or so to sight-see and explore, so I figured it would be best to not worry about regulating Luna's temperature while on the road. My current plan is to order shipping materials from the company ShipYourReptiles, have my dad/sister take care of her while I'm on the road, and then have them ship her to me (priority overnight).

I'm just extremely worried about her safety and well-being. Has anyone used this company before? With leopard geckos specifically? Do they do alright being shipped?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Leopard geckos usually do fine when shipped Priority Overnight via FedEx with a company that specializes in shipping reptiles.

Monitor temperatures at FedEx Ship Center locations along the way as well as sending and receiving cities' airports. I use weather.com

I've used Ship Your Reptiles in the past. Currently I use Reptiles2You.

Here how I ship geckos.

Shipyourreptiles has very good information about how to pack the geckos. I've shipped and received through them and never had a problem. They also have guidelines about shipping temperatures which will not likely be a problem at this time of year.

Robyn from ShipYourReptiles.com here. Shipping a leopard gecko is really straight forward, they travel well.

I would go with our shipping kit #2, and use the deli cup for the gecko.

Use coupon code top40 for 40% off the FedEx retail rate on your first shipment, it will give you a bit more savings over the regular discount.

If you follow our packaging and temperature guidelines there is no reason you shouldn't expect 100% success with your gecko shipment.

Feel free to give SYR staff a call during the week, 7am to 6pm MST, with any questions, we are happy to walk you through the process!
