Red eyed gecko keeps eyes closed

I'll be finding out this weekend if I will be able to adopt a baby geck because the store does not think it will sell due his eyes. It has red eyes and keeps them constantly closed unless it is shaded or under something so that it is dark. Im told that it can hunt crickets even though the workers seem to think its blind.. I don't think that's the case since it can hunt on its own. But I did see that once it was out from under its hide that it seemed very confused and circled a lot. I didn't see any star gazing though. So I guess my question is, what do you guys think? Blind, light sensitive, something else? If i do have the chance to adopt, it will be getting a wellness check before coming home since I do have my Ollie. This geck will be on another floor of the house. Any tips or advice is welcome!

Remember how bright most pet stores are. There's a good chance the gecko will be fine in dimmer light. In my opinion it's worth the risk.

Thank you both so much for the info! I am planning to immediately get it to the vet for a "wellness" check. Would parasites like crypto show up in a general visit or is that typically something specific you have to ask for? The last thing I want is to put my Ollie at risk. But I will absolutely be following all quarantine guidelines!

You're welcome.

These days vets can swab a leo's vent to check for crypto. It's no longer necessary to have a separate fecal lab done.
