Hi there I need a shopping list for heating and lighting a 60 gallon tall enclosure, I'm kinda on a budget so be kind, but I will buy what you recommend.
Thank you for your time

Based on the forum this is in, I'm assuming you're preparing for a crested gecko. The good news is that you don't really need heat and you don't need lights unless you're planning to use live plants (as long as there's ambient light in the room so the gecko can tell the difference between day and night). Assuming no plants in the enclosure (though I do think real plants are attractive and nice to have in there):

--cover for the enclosure
--paper towel, tile or coco fiber for the bottom (Johsfrogs.com makes a substrate that doesn't require a drainage layer that has worked well in my crestie cages)
--fake plants to provide some cover for the gecko
--a few perches, which can be made from garden store bamboo that you can cut to the size where it will wedge into the width of the enclosure
--food bowl and optional water bowl. These can be put on the ground but will be a bit better if you use something that you can stick on the side. Lately I've realized that the feeding platforms that attach with suction cups are better than the magnet ones because the magnets always rust with the daily misting
--simple, cheap hide. Sometimes the crestie does like to crawl into something

If you do want to go with plants, they don't have to be planted into the enclosure; you can put them in small pots if you want. I have had very good luck with pothos. In that case you'll need a simple clamp lamp with a compact florescent bulb.

Hi ~

  • What are the dimensions of your 60 gallon enclosure?
  • What are day and night temps of the room where you will house your crested gecko?
I do keep a water dish in my crestie's enclosure.

For a feeding dish platform: Fill some tall skinny pot with hydroton clay culture balls to increase the humidity. Cover the hydroballs with a layer of weedblocker cloth just in case. Spray the hydroballs frequently. Place the food dish on top at whatever height the pot is.
