I signed up yesterday and have been looking/reading all over and this is a great gecko forum
I am not new to geckos. But I am no know it all either. Thats why I'm here. I fist started caring for geckos back in the '90's. Back then they were simply called "Madagascar Day Geckeos" The first two I bought (males I learned the hard way to separate thanks to a seller who just wanted a sale). But they both lived 11 years and I've had day geckos average 10 years. I haven't had any geckos for the last seven years, too busy, then recently I discovered the Lygodactylus Williamsi species, aka electric blue geckos, and yesterday I placed an order for my first which will arrive in April. Im building the tank now. Very excited about this species. I only bought one, no idea of the gender, but thats okay. Then I see the article of the new gecko species discover in an Australian island. Increadible. Lets hope it stays in the wild an is never smuggled out. Australia is a country I've spent a lot of time in and have strong feelings for. I married an Auzzie lady. I know they'll protect it. May not even be where they say!
But I will end with this, husbandry has really changed for the better over the years!
Thanks for reading this long!

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited, mistergreen! It's great to hear you've been exploring GU's resources! The more the merrier!

I hope you'll stick around to reap Geckos Unlimited's benefits & to expand your connection with geckos! GU has been around for years! In early December 2022 GU got a much-awaited software upgrade.

Welcome! Where are you on LI? I grew up there. I have one male L. williamsi named Mr. Blue. Mr. Blue occasionally zips out of his cage when I'm misting (fortunately not recently) but at least he's learned how to get back into his cage so I just have to leave it open until he returns from walkabout.

I'm in Suffolk County. Just moved back in 2020 after being mostly on the west coast since the '80's. Among other places.
I won't have my L. Williamsi until April. Just one and when I can definitely see its gender I'll get the other. I do want to breed them and keep the species thriving.
I'm building a nice huge tank now and taking pics as I go along and maybe I'll post them in a thread. I want to have a tank set up so I dont have to do anything once the gecko is in. I have a small screwpine for it that I'm excited to have.
I used to have giant day geckos and I would let them out and walk around feely. I think it really made them happy!
I won't do that with my Blues though.

Sounds great. I tried breeding them and failed miserably. I produced 7 offspring and despite all my efforts and consultation with Leann Christensen, they just didn't make it. I still don't know what I did wrong. I wrote an article about it here:

Seriously consider posting a thread about building a huge tank for your L. williamsi. Other keepers will benefit from your efforts!

I've lived on USA's West Coast all my life. Portland, then Seattle for ages, & now on Oregon's North Coast.

Thank you for sharing this article. I admire you for making it public. I'm sure you did for others to learn from. It's definitely a learning experience for me also. Why these things happen is probably beyond our reach.
