Another sad/advanced case of MBD, advice needed, please help me save him

I agree with Ethan. I think that since he's not had calcium in quite a while if at all, it may be very easy for him to overdose on it....

Could he overdose with calcium or with D3?? I have read that too much D3 is not good but I had never read to much calcium per se could be bad.... I also have plain calcium (I have both types, with and without D3), should I mix it like half and half so he wouldn´t have so much D3??

I have read this article once and again (it´s like I am studying it), it´s quite good in my opinion, if anyone wants to have this info, it´s the most complete info I have found online:
Metabolic Bone Disease

It´s a bit long, but I believe it´s very complete, it´s written by a veterinarian, expert in exotics.

It doesn´t mention overdose with calcium but with D3 instead, could this be what you are referring to??

Yeah they can overdose of D3. I'd still be worried about normal calcium too. I just fear that if his body is not used to it, his body may react in a negative way to too much too soon. You know... Sort of how tolerance to drugs works. I have no evidence on this or anything. I guess it's just a feeling... I'll have to do some research to see if I can find anything on this.

Good to hear and see the progress you are making with this little guy! I am keeping all fingers and toes crossed as well for a good recovery.

Hello!!
Well, another update, Yesterday I put him in a moist hide for about one hour (warm) and after that I could get rid of almost all the skin of one of his rear legs, he stood very still, I did it very softly, almost not pulling, when I was almost done with the first leg he began to move and show discomfort, so, I left him alone again in his tank! Will try to do the other legs this week, just like that, softly and working just until he starts to show any discomfort or pain, then I leave him alone for the day.

he has poo´d 3 times now, the last one was a little whitish in color (still good in consistence and smell) I figured it was probably because he was ingesting too much calcium, so, I lowered the dose a bit, I am feeding him every day, with superworm and roach ¨cream¨ (Grose, I know) and still giving him Reptivite and Calcium + D3 every other day, he hasn´t gained any visible weight, I´ll wait at least a week or two to weight him, will try to get a picture of the leg that I could get out of the old skin, it looks even more twisted now that I can actually see it.... Thanks for asking and even thinking about him, I named him Quasimodo he is all messed up but still very sweet and with good attitude, the name seemed to fit him

Hello to all!!
Updating a little bit after a few days!
I managed to get rig of all the old sking from the legs, but I can´t get the toes out :( I am very afraid he might loose some toes, the skin there is VERY stuck, and I don´t want to pull too hard... he has several layers of skin there, it makes me mad that this took so long to happen and the owner didn´t do anything about it!! I am struggling with myself because one part of me doesn´t want to give it back to that kid because I know he´ll get bad again, he just can´t provide proper care (and in top of that he doesn´t care much, he is ¨bored¨ of this animal because ¨he doesn´t move¨) maybe I´ll tell him to sell it to me, this little guy will need special care all of his life and I know he can´t provide it :(
I am still syringe feeding him, and providing calcium 3x per week and vitamins (Reptivite) once a week, I was feeding every other day but from today I am increasing it to every day, since he hasn´t gained any weight and he is thin, I believe if he was eating enough he´d be putting up some grames, so, I´ll start feeding him daily, and keeping the calcium 3x per week.... He still maintains a good attitude, is very alert, poo´s fine, and remains in his warm hide!! I´ll try getting a picture of him today, since I got rid of some skin you can see his legs better, they do not look good :(

Hey girl. Thanks for all the updates. Im glad to hear that he is still eating the goop that you are giving him. Its sad that this little kid is not taking care of his animals. As for giving it back to him is a death wish for the little guy. I consider him lucky to have actually survived in his care. I would ether tell him he cant have it back or that it died and that you were sorry for his loss. He shouldn't be taking care of any animal.

I tend to agree with Scotty Saskia. I don't think this kid should be given the priviledge of having poor little Quasi back.

My older Leo Althaea had a bad shed at the beginning of the month around the back left toes. No matter what I did I couldn't get it all off. Well she shed again yesterday and the night before I had given her her "bath". Well what a difference it made this time. The shed went great. I noticed that back foot was gonna be a problem so again I gave her a bath and after wards I only had to work a bit on that foot and thankfully its all gone now....looks fabulous. Are you giving her baths? I had no idea how much they help.

Currently I would say that getting this animal to eat properly and keeping stress to a minimum outweigh the stress of some stuck shed on the toes. Baths are not natural and are very stressful for a leo and honestly won't do any more than if you just give him a humid hide to hang out in on his own.

As for giving him back to the previous owner that put him in this condition...no way.

Yes, the previous owner told me he purchased 4 geckos (2 leos and 2 tokays) and one python, the other leo died, the python died, the 2 tokays he ¨set them free¨ in his garden so they could find their own food.... and the last gecko is this one...... :?

A little stuck shed is not going to hurt at this point. Instead of continuing to mess with it, I'd leave it be and wait to see if it doesn't come off on it's own during the next full shed.

Well, actually it´s not a little shed, his front feet (I´ll call them ¨hands¨) are closed like fists because all his fingers are attached together due to several layers of old shed, I can´t see the fingers, I´m afraid he might loose the whole feet, I´ll post a picture now so you can see, in the rear legs it´s a little better because it´s just the fingers (but not the tip of the fingers but the whole fingers)

Quite the track record. See if there's any penalty for releasing non-native species and report him.

No hun, this is Venezuela, there is no animal law here what so ever, if it was the US it would be a different thing but that is not a possibility here :( people kill people here and only one of every 14 murders get to go to a court house, imagine how it would be for neglecting an animal or releasing an animal, noone would care
